Fujita-sensei teaching

Shao Shan Temple was honored to host a visiting teacher from Japan: Fujita-sensei.  His enjoyable and insightful dharma talk was inspiring to the assembled group of Shao Shan Temple students, sangha, friends and visitors.
Grateful gassho to Rev. Issho Fujita for the time and effort to come to Shao Shan Temple and for his teaching.  Thanks also to all who participated!

Buddha's Birthday Celebration!

On a sunny spring day amidst perfectly flowering crabapple trees,
a festive group gathered at Shao Shan Temple on May 21st 2017
to celebrate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha .

A time of silent meditation
was followed by a noble procession -a symbolic pilgrimage to visit the baby Buddha.  The festive procession included parasols, bubbles and bells (and black flies!)

The procession was followed by a story of the Buddha's Birth
and sweet tea offerings accompanied by flute playing.

The afternoon ended with refreshments and birthday cake!
