Jukai - Formal Student & Precept Ceremonies

 Shao Shan Temple
Sunday, July 3, 2016

This year Judy Harden made her commitment to become a formal student of Shao Shan Temple.  She received the 16 precepts, her Buddhist name and has become Taihaku’s student.

Max Schlueter, Susan Calza, Rob Lamb, Scott Fields and Glenda Bissex received the first five Bodhisattva precepts and have made their commitment to a Buddhist way of life.

This ceremony was an occasion for the families and friends of those receiving the precepts and Sangha members to join together in support of the commitment that Judy, Max, Susan, Rob, Scott and Glenda are entering.

Thank you to everyone who joined together with us in a spirit of renewal of your commitments and intentions which support a life beneficial for all.

Buddha's Birthday 2016

This year, Shao Shan Temple
celebrated Buddha's Birthday on Memorial Day weekend.

The grounds were decorated with brightly colored flags and fragrant lilacs.
To the sound of bells, drums and conchs, a procession wound its way through the red pines.

Inside the temple, a gently twirling golden parasol
hung above a flower pagoda enshrining a baby buddha statue.
Amidst pali chanting, each person offered sweet tea to the baby buddha.

Thanks to all who joined together in creating this
joyous celebration of Buddha's Birth!
